African Leadership University

ALU Scholarships 2020

6 years ago, ALU was launched with the vision of educating 3 million leaders by 2035.

On June 12th, 2019, we took a giant leap towards this vision when we graduated 76 young leaders of our inaugural class, and we’re looking forward to the February 28th, when another 110 students will graduate.

We are encouraged by this progress, but also aware of how much is still to be achieved – we only have 5,425 days left to accomplish our mission and unleash as many leaders as possible – so that they, in turn, can create more jobs and opportunities for other leaders.

This is why, from the very beginning, we have tried to make ALU as accessible as possible. As we go into our next stage of growth, we want to make sure every entrepreneurial leader has the opportunity to attend ALU. So we are happy to share with you the ALU Scholarships 2020; 5 different scholarships that aim to make world-class higher education accessible to all.

Who we are looking for

Like ALU itself, our scholarships are not for everyone. We are looking for a very specific type of applicant. Our ideal applicant is an exceptional leader, a pace-setter. A changemaker who is innovative, creative, resilient and mission-driven. If this sounds like you, then this is your opportunity to gain the tools, skillsets, and networks to bring positive change and create impact through the diverse set of scholarships that we are offering.

The ALU Scholarships Programme

These are the 5 opportunities presented this year:

The ALU African Leaders Scholarship will enable the most promising young leaders from across Africa to study at Africa’s most innovative University, despite financial adversity or economic hardship. These scholarships are designed for mission-driven young students who have demonstrated an impact on their communities.

One of the reasons Africa thrives is the tremendous depth of female leadership on our continent. We are inspired by the amazing work done by leaders like Graça Machel, Wangari Mathai and many others. The ALU Female Leaders Scholarship was created to empower exceptional young women to realize and/or unlock their leadership potential and lead a life of impact.

The ALU Disability Scholarship is our long-term commitment to support exceptional young students living with disabilities in their pursuit of higher learning. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of applicants’ entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated impact, and financial need.

The ALU Patoranking Scholarship, sponsored by award-winning Nigerian dancehall artist Patoranking, will unlock opportunities for community change-makers and innovators to become a part of Africa’s new generation of leaders, despite their financial backgrounds.

The ALU Refugee Scholarship is a unique program enabling access to higher education for students living as refugees while possessing entrepreneurial drive, leadership potential, and financial needs.  Applicants must be officially recognized refugees without means of support for university studies.

Why ALU is offering these scholarships

ALU’s mission of educating 3 million leaders can only be accomplished through a multiplier effect. This means that the leaders educated at ALU pay it forward by creating new ventures, jobs and policies that create opportunities for even more leaders to emerge.

With the support and commitment of great partnerships,we are equipping young African Leaders with the knowledge and skills that they require to pay it forward in the communities they are a part of.

The recipients of the ALU scholarships will be empowered with the unique tools and mindsets to go on and generate a positive impact in their communities and pay it forward. Our challenge for them is: What are they going to do with this opportunity? We can’t wait to see what they come up with.
