Overview

Bachelor of Science (Hons) in International Business and Trade (BSc IBT) is a transformative program designed to cultivate future mission-oriented leaders who can navigate the complexities of global business and drive Africa’s economic integration.
Centered on the continent’s unique opportunities and challenges, the program equips students with a deep understanding of international trade, regional integration, and the strategic imperatives shaping Africa’s economic landscape.

The program fosters a practical and entrepreneurial mindset by immersing students in the realities of African business. Through experiential learning opportunities, including internships and capstone projects, students will apply their knowledge to real-world challenges and contribute to innovative solutions. The curriculum also emphasizes the importance of ethical leadership, sustainability, and social responsibility in international business.

Requirement

Each student’s journey is unique.  We believe that good grades alone are not the mark of a true leader. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes. As such, we are not only looking for those who are at the top of their class, but also those who have stories of impact and tackle problems without waiting for someone else to solve them.

Any prospective student must meet our general entry requirements and the programme specific requirements to be admitted into ALU.

Eligibility requirements for admission to ALU IBT program

Applicants are required to supply evidence of :

  • Passed the final national secondary school exam and graduated, with at least two principal passes.
  • Passed at least two principle A-level subjects or equivalent with a minimum grade of C.
  • Passed (with a C or higher) at least grade 10 level Mathematics or an equivalent.
  • English proficiency (B2 level or equivalent) is required for instruction and communication at ALU. More information on English requirements can be found here.

Please note

  • Language of Instruction: The language of instruction at the African Leadership University is English. Applicants must supply evidence of B2 (or equivalent) proficiency. Those not meeting the B2 threshold will also have the option to complete English proficiency bridging program (s) offered by ALU or other 3rd-party providers. After passing the Bridging Programme, they can enroll at ALU

Plan of Study

Year 1 lays the foundation with decision-making, leadership, communication, research, economics, accounting, and marketing courses. It incorporates ALU’s Signature Leadership Core Courses, which distinguish our students.

Year 2 delves into business analytics and core management, covering business statistics, international finance, multinational enterprises, talent management, and strategic decision-making, complemented by practical experience through an internship.

Year 3 and Year 4 focus on advanced topics such as international trade laws, corporate ethics, trade policy analysis, and international diplomacy, culminating in a significant capstone project.
