ReImagining Education Nairobi Roundtable: Crafting the Educational Blueprint of Tomorrow’s Africa

This Saturday on September 23rd, 2023 the African Leadership University (ALU) will welcome a distinguished gathering of over a hundred education stakeholders at Radisson Blu Hotel Convention Centre in Upperhill, Nairobi – Kenya. 

With a theme underscoring the “Development of Africa’s Next Generation of Leaders,” the conference aims to concentrate on the imperative need for systematic and collaborative educational reforms tailored specifically for Africa. Esteemed attendees, including Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, Professor Joachim Osur of Amref International University, and Mr. Veda Sunassee, CEO of the African Leadership University, is expected to contribute significantly to these deliberations. Here are some of the profiles of our esteemed panelists, speakers and facilitators:

Prof. Joachim Osur – Keynote Speaker

A Pan-African advocate for sexual and reproductive health, Prof. Joachim Osur brings over 25 years of expertise in health and higher education. Serving as Vice-Chancellor of Amref International University and Chairman of Health Rights Kenya, his prolific writings for Nation Newspaper have enlightened many. Holding multiple degrees and fellowships, Prof. Osur is a beacon of knowledge in reproductive health and sexual medicine.

Veda Sunassee – Speaker & Facilitator

Veda has spent 9 years in several roles with the African Leadership Group. He first served as an Entrepreneurial Leadership Faculty at ALA before joining ALU’s founding team. In 2017, he moved to Rwanda to be the Founding Dean of the African Leadership University campus in Kigali. Veda is a graduate of Princeton University. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the African Leadership University (Rwanda) and the African Leadership College (Mauritius).

Terryanne Chebet – Moderator

As the Strategic Business Lead for CNBC Africa in Nairobi, Terryanne Chebet has shaped African business narratives for over a decade. With expertise in executive media management and journalism, she’s interviewed Africa’s business elite and pioneered innovative media strategies. Her passion for women’s empowerment birthed Africa’s Leading Ladies, connecting thousands of women across the continent.

Esther Muchiri – Panellist

Visionary founder and CEO of eMentoring Africa, Esther Muchiri stands at the forefront of mentoring and professional development in Kenya. From spearheading the Mentors-in-Practice Masterclass to championing ICT initiatives, Esther’s influence spans various sectors. A certified mentor and award-winning innovator, she’s dedicated to nurturing Africa’s next generation of leaders.

Nhlanhla Thwala –  Facilitator 

Nhlanhla was previously Academic Director at the Pearson Institute in South Africa. Prior to that, he served as the Managing Director of CTI Education Group and the Director of Wits Language at Wits University. Nhlanhla received his PhD in Linguistics from UCLA. Currently, he serves as the Provost at African Leadership College in Mauritius and the African Leadership University in Rwanda. 

Akinyi Odongo, OGW – Panellist

A leader in the world of fashion and mentorship, Akinyi Odongo has made her mark with her eponymous fashion brand and groundbreaking educational initiatives. Recognized by the president with the Order of Grand Warrior (OGW), her leadership extends to the Kenya Fashion Council and various mentoring programs, shaping the future of African fashion and talent.

Folu Adeyeye

Folu Adeyeye is an experienced marketing and digital transformation leader with a track record of driving growth across 40+ countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. As Director of Marketing, Communications and Digital at the African Leadership University, he is responsible for designing and implementing the ALU digital strategy, the marketing communications strategy, and the ALU brand strategy. Passionate about education, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment, he collaborates with knowledge-driven organizations to unlock young people’s potential. Additionally, Folu actively teaches and mentors young entrepreneurs through partnerships with organizations like Google & the U.N.C.T.A.D. e-trade program.

Dr. Anne Achieng Aseey – Panellist

Dr. Anne Achieng Aseey stands tall in the academic realm as the Chairperson of the Department of Educational and Distance Studies at the University of Nairobi. A recognized scholar with accolades for her outstanding performance, she has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of distance learning, gender development, and conflict resolution. A prolific researcher and author, Dr. Aseey is devoted to pioneering educational advancements and fostering a culture of excellence.

Ms. Kayta Nyangi, Director of Marketing – Strategy and Outreach at ALU, has conveyed her anticipation for the event. “The ReImagine Roundtable Event is poised to offer a comprehensive exchange of insights,” noted Ms. Nyangi. She continued, “The event has garnered attention from a plethora of education specialists, and we predict a convergence of diverse experts who are committed to addressing global challenges through innovative educational strategies.”

 

Participants will be privy to in-depth panel discussions on lifelong learning and specialized workshops on self-directed learning, mission-driven education, and the methodology of imparting emotional intelligence.

The ReImagine Education Conference is a continuation of an esteemed series of events that periodically assemble educators, policy-makers, parents, and proactive students. This collective aims to address the prevailing state and prospective developments in education across Africa.
