African Leadership University

Introducing Mauritius

ALU’s goal of developing Africa’s young generation of changemakers begins with the inaugural campus in Mauritius – known as African Leadership College (ALC).

Located in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is a rich mix of culture, religion, history and geography. The country’s 1.3 million people form a multiethnic society with largely Indian, African, Chinese and European origins. The island is one of the most economically, politically and socially stable countries in Africa.

Mauritius is on the path to becoming an education hub for high quality institutions and a place where young people can engage in knowledge creation. It is home to a large number of excellent local and international tertiary institutions, giving students the opportunity to enjoy the cultural, social, and academic benefits of being amongst other young students.

From its pristine beaches to its lush tropical forests and majestic peaks, Mauritius provides limitless outdoor activities for students to choose from. They can go hiking, check out underwater activities or tour the island’s many nature parks, wildlife sanctuaries, museums, gardens and aquariums. Our facilities are spread across the north west of Mauritius in the district of Pamplemousses allowing students to enjoy the island’s diverse landscapes.

ALC is excited to welcome the first cohort of nearly 60 students from 23 countries and another 120 students in January 2016. It is our hope that together with these young leaders, we will be able to unleash the potential of the continent from this beautiful island in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
