ALU Welcomes Over 240 Students to the May 2026 Cohort

The African Leadership University (ALU) welcomed more than 240 students to its May 2026 intake through a week of orientation activities designed to introduce students to the university’s learning environment, community, and leadership culture.

Known as the Abanqobi cohort, derived from the isiZulu word for “those who conquer” or “victors”, the incoming students participated in a series of experiences across campus and in the city of Kigali, marking the beginning of their journey at ALU.

The week featured a Welcome Ceremony, academic orientation sessions, student-led activities, and cultural programming to help students build connections and settle into university life. Students also engaged with ALU’s wider campus community through the Club Fair, Open Mic sessions, and group activities across Kigali.

A key moment of the week was Ikaze, ALU’s longstanding welcome tradition that formally introduces new students into the university community. The celebration reflected the university’s emphasis on belonging, collaboration, and shared identity across its pan-African student body.

Throughout the orientation programme, students were introduced to ALU’s approach to leadership development, experiential learning, and community-driven education. Sessions focused on equipping students with the tools, relationships, and support systems needed as they begin their academic journey.

The May 2026 intake brings together students from across the continent and beyond, continuing ALU’s mission to develop ethical and entrepreneurial leaders equipped to drive impact across Africa and the world.

As the Abanqobi cohort begins this next chapter, the week marked the start of new relationships, new opportunities, and a shared commitment to shaping the future through leadership and learning.
