ALU students recently had the opportunity to engage with entrepreneur and business leader Bob Gatera, Founder and Managing Director of Axe Ventures Ltd, during an immersive session exploring leadership development, resilience, and entrepreneurship in practice.
Hosted as part of the Africa’s Leaders course, the session connected classroom learning with real-world leadership experiences. Drawing from nearly a decade of leading transformation at Balton Rwanda before founding Axe Ventures, Gatera shared insights from his journey building a million-dollar enterprise serving key institutions across East Africa.
His reflections on bold decision-making, stepping outside of comfort zones, values-driven leadership, and finding opportunity in challenges closely align with the course lesson, “The Stages of Leadership Development: Mapping Your Leadership Journey.”
Students actively engaged throughout the discussion, asking thoughtful questions and exploring the realities of leadership at different stages of personal and professional growth.
The session provided students with the opportunity to learn directly from a leader navigating complex business environments and to gain practical insights into entrepreneurship, resilience, and leadership in action.
Experiences like these reflect ALU’s commitment to experiential learning, connecting students with industry leaders whose journeys bring classroom concepts to life and inspire the next generation of African leaders.
