ALU Presents The Circular Economy Business Challenge – An official side event for the World Circular Economy Forum 2022

INTRODUCTION:

We are proud to announce that the African Leadership University is participating at the World Circular Economy Forum 2022 to showcase the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of young African entrepreneurs through the Circular Economy Business Challenge.

Through this Business Challenge, ALU’s entrepreneurs will build and test circular business models corresponding to the themes identified under African Circular Economy Alliance’s 5 big bets for Africa’s path to circularity and showcase their sustainable and innovative products/services to the world. All selected applicants will receive support from our Student Ventures Programme and the Circular Economy Programme.

The winners will receive cash prizes and an invitation to pitch their venture in front of the WCEF2022 plenary which consists of global leaders from the private and public sectors, investors, and international organizations working towards a circular future.

BACKGROUND:

Africa is a continent with the youngest population in the world and this is an enormous resource in building a future with new perspectives. Innovative visions are common among the youth, and it is important to create an enabling environment that allows youth to create sustainable business solutions, while also generating green jobs.

Thus, traditional teaching methods and academic knowledge must make room for the education of entrepreneurial thinking, technical and leadership skills. At ALU, students gain these practical skills by applying their knowledge in the ‘real world’ through community development projects and impact-oriented businesses.
