ALU Hosts Continental Delegates for Model United Nations Conference

From 12–16 April, the African Leadership University (ALU), in collaboration with Babcock International Model United Nations (BIMUN), hosted a Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, bringing together over 300 participants from across the continent.

The conference convened secondary school and university delegates from ALU, institutions across Rwanda, and partner schools from other African countries. Through a series of structured committee sessions, participants engaged in global challenges using formal debate, negotiation, and resolution drafting processes modelled on the United Nations.

This year’s edition marked ten years of BIMUN, under the theme “Better Together: A Decade of BIMUN Advancing the United Nations’ Vision for Peace, Development, and Human Rights”, emphasising the role of cross-border and cross-generational collaboration in advancing shared global priorities.

Across the programme, delegates participated in committee discussions, leadership development sessions, and simulations designed to reflect real-world multilateral processes. These activities supported the development of core competencies, including public speaking, policy analysis, negotiation, and consensus-building.

The conference also facilitated peer exchange across institutions and geographies, enabling participants to engage with diverse perspectives and approaches to global problem-solving.

Events like this reinforce ALU’s focus on experiential learning and leadership development. The MUN format provides a structured environment for students to apply critical thinking and collaboration skills to complex, real-world challenges.
