Announcing the Dolika Banda Scholarship for Zambian leaders in STEM

Through the generosity of Dolika Banda, ALU is delighted to announce a scholarship for Zambian students to pursue an undergraduate degree in STEM. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are critical disciplines for Africa, which she believes will provide the leap to a more productive and innovative continent. The scholarship imbibes Banda’s inspiration to give back to Zambia in a meaningful way and her wish to support the future scientists, innovators and thinkers. The scholarship will be awarded to students who demonstrate excellent academic merit and exceptional promise in STEM fields. The number of scholarships awarded each year will depend on the caliber of candidates.

Banda’s illustrious career spans over 25 years of experience in international banking and financial management. She is currently the CEO of the African Risk Capacity Insurance Limited, an organization founded by the African Union to insure African countries against risk such as famine. She also serves on the board of Ecobank Group, one of ALU’s employer partners. Previously, she was the Managing Director and Regional Director of CDC Group as well as Senior Advisor and Director of the IFC in Washington D.C..

A native of Zambia, Banda has never forgotten her roots and the importance of giving back. Banda has made it her mission to educate the next generation of leaders from her home country. The Dolika Banda Scholarship will cover the full cost of tuition and fees for one Zambian student to complete an undergraduate degree in STEM, and will be glad to support successful candidates further with accommodation and related expenses to take advantage of this incredible opportunity. This student may pursue a degree at either ALU campus: ALC Mauritius or ALU Rwanda.

Sam Darko, ALU Admissions Director, expressed his gratitude. “We are delighted that Dolika Banda has chosen ALU as the channel to exercise her generosity. We look forward to educating a generation of young leaders from Zambia who can walk in her footsteps.”

The application deadline is May 31st , 2017. For more information, please contact the ALU Admissions team (admissions@alueducation.com).
