The exposure I have received through both work experience, classroom experiential, and extensive academic training allowed me to deepen my knowledge about what it means to be an agent of change in 21st century Africa.

Amina Alaoui Soulimani, Morocco. Social Sciences, 2019

My mission is to achieve economic development in Africa by designing solid economic frameworks and creating 2 million jobs by 2030. Through ALU’s Student Venture Program(SVP), I have been equipped with skills to start and run a business and most importantly, to delegate and start another one. Through entrepreneurship, I intend to create at least 2 million jobs and ensure there is economic and technological progress in Africa.

Jesse Salu, Kenya. Global Challenges, 2021

ALU has given me the opportunity to practice what I do in class, develop new skills, and most importantly take my first steps in the professional world. During my time at ALU, I was able to work as a Residential Assistant where I drove the cultural integration of over 100 students from 35+ countries.

Amara Rendy Soumahoro, Côte D’Ivoire. Business Management, 2020

I am a generalist, who is still working on perfecting the art of being a generalist, but thus far, ALU has been able to prepare me with the right attitudes, skills and frameworks that allow me to creatively engage with the various disciplines required towards achieving my goals. One other thing that influenced my experience at this institution was the relationships I built with both faculty and students. Both propelled me in the direction of growth and self-actualization - and also really kept me on my toes. I was able to be part of a community that was filled with love and sisterhood.

      Get real-world work experience
      while you study at ALU.

Most universities provide little to no practical work experience. They don’t start talking about life after graduation until a student’s final year. At ALU, we take a different approach. Our students begin their career development journey on day one. We believe that practical work experience is crucial, so we’ve made it part of our curriculum.

Students at ALU are encouraged to pursue work experience for at least 8 weeks of each academic year as part of the graduation requirement. While we expect a majority of students will pursue internships, we also support students who want to pursue other kinds of work experience including community service, community-based academic research, and entrepreneurial experience.

But remember, these are not your typical ‘get your boss coffee and make photocopies’ internships.

Your internship’s outcomes will be carefully selected and agreed with the employer, to make sure your time there helps build the type of skills and experience you will need in order to succeed in your career of impact! Our internship programme ensures that you are prepared for professional success. And because of this, ALU graduates have received job offers from leading companies such as Bain & Company, Google, Dalberg, Facebook, Pernod Ricard, Cellulant, and PWC.

      Learn from phenomenal experts-in-residence

As a student at ALU, you will be exposed to knowledge and advice from global experts who spend time on our campus working directly with you. Whichever field, or whatever career path you choose to pursue, there’s always an expert ready to help you achieve the best results.

      Why should you
      choose ALU?

At ALU, we have designed a proven approach that helps you get ready to launch your life of impact - and help you achieve your goals.

All ALU students get the opportunity to harness the characteristics essential for creating a mission-based life of impact and purpose. This means a core part of our programme is to challenge you to identify the impact you want to have in the world. We then develop the 21st-century skills and network you need as a young leader, professional or entrepreneur, to help achieve this impact.

The programmes at ALU allow students to explore the fine line between great leadership and entrepreneurial thinking. Students get the opportunity to grow and develop skills such as self-awareness, identifying opportunities, design thinking, proactivity and innovation. They are prepared to become entrepreneurial leaders who will harness the tremendous opportunities that abound on the continent.

At ALU we believe the key to success is not memorising facts and figures that can change, but on learning life-long skills that you can apply throughout your career. This is why we intentionally develop skills like self-leading, leading others, entrepreneurial thinking, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, managing complex projects, and communication in students through practice, on-the-job experience, coaching, and regular feedback – in conjunction with our academic programmes.

ALU has students from over 40 countries. Our students become part of a talented, diverse community from around the world. They are surrounded by driven, talented, and passionate classmates. They are exposed to ALU’s unique and powerful network of mentors, guest speakers, experts-in-residence, industry leaders, investors, ALU staff, and employer partners.
