Announcing the ALU School of Business

ALU is excited to announce the launch of the ALU School of Business (ALUSB), a first-of-its-kind institution that is building global leaders for the African century. ALUSB aims to bring the real story of African business to the next generation of pan-African business leaders—and, beyond that, to the global business community. Its mission is to join the best academic business knowledge from around the world with cutting-edge leadership training and real experiences of doing business in Africa.

ALUSB’s flagship degree is a 20-month MBA programme that uses technology to leapfrog traditional MBA learning models. Rather than a residential programme that emphasizes theoretical approaches and takes students out of the workforce for as much as two years, the ALU MBA uses a cutting-edge ‘flipped’ educational model that emphasizes student-centered, participatory learning based on real-world issues. Instead of simply memorizing frameworks and formulae, ALU MBA students will gain key problem-solving, strategic-thinking, communication, and leadership skills—as well as a peer network drawn from countries across the continent.

Leadership in business requires hands-on judgment, inspiration, and the ability to move people to action. Students will therefore learn from real African business titans about the decisions they have made and the practical, proven techniques they have used in navigating the challenging African business landscape. Classes are taught by an “all-star” cast of African business giants such as Dr. Donald Kaberuka, Acha Leke, and Francis Daniels. Professor Catherine Duggan, who won the distinguished teacher of the year award at Harvard Business School twice in her career will also serve as Vice Dean for Strategy and Research

The launch of the ALU Business School and the MBA is a reflection of ALU’s ability to continually innovate, be nimble, and be open to new ideas. It also aligns with ALU’s overall objective to improve the quality of leadership in Africa through developing three million leaders for the continent over the next 50 years.

Applications are now open for the entering class of September 2016. Visit www.alusb.com to learn more.
