What does the meal plan include?
The meal plan provides 3 meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) as well as a snack. All meals are served at the campus cafeteria. Opting into the meal plan allows for students to benefit from discounted rates at the cafeteria.
What if I have special dietary requirements?
ALC makes provision for students who have special requirements due to medical reasons such as allergies. In this case, a note from a medical doctor is required which should be acquired before arrival in Mauritius.
What is the ALC Catering Committee?
The ALC Catering Committee is a student-led body that works with ALC’s caterer to uphold the quality and service of residential catering. The Committee is responsible for communicating with students on all matters related to their catering experience on campus.
What is the cost of the meal plan?
The annual cost of the meal plan is $2,500 which provides for meals during the academic year while students are on campus. Meals during the 3rd trimester, while students are on their internships, are not included as part of this meal plan. Students who opt into the meal plan will be provided with a meal card which will allow them to gain access to meals.
Payment of the meal plan will correspond with the fees and tuition payment schedule selected. See payment schedule for more information in this regard.
Can I opt out of the meal plan?
If students do not want to make use of the ALC meal plan, they have the choice to “opt out” for a fee. Upon enrollment, you will be given the opportunity to indicate (but not guaranteed) if you would like to opt out of the meal plan. Once selected, you may not change your status for the upcoming term. Students who wish to change their meal plan status will need to apply to the ALC Catering Committee 30 days before the beginning of the next term.
The first year at ALC is a busy and intense one in which students will need to adapt to a new way of learning and a new environment. Preparing one’s meals every morning, afternoon and night will be an added time pressure so we highly discourage students from opting out of the meal plan.
For students who opt out of the meal plan, the following conditions apply:
- All opt out students will be provided locker space to store their food. The maintenance of these lockers is the responsibility of the student.
- Students may not make use of any of ALC’s meal plans.
- Students must responsible for their own kitchenware and utensils.
- Students will not be allowed to use kitchenware or utensils from the ALC main kitchen.
- Maintenance of the kitchens and personal utensils is the responsibility of the student. The ALC Catering Committee will ensure that standards of cleanliness are upheld.
